“Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don’t forget your booties ’cause it’s cooooold out there today.” – Anon Newsreader, ‘Groundhog Day’, 1991
This famous quote from the cult classic Groundhog Day couldn’t be a more inaccurate report for the Groundhog Day in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica I’m currently experiencing, as it’s 31 degrees every day, the waves are a cool 30. Oh and the surf’s pumping. Like perfect. Every day.
If you haven’t seen this Bill Murray classic, the film is about a weatherman who gets caught in a blizzard and then finds himself trapped in a weird time warp for no apparent reason. He relives the same day (Groundhog Day) over and over again for the forseable future.
It’s a living hell, but imagine if your Groundhog Day consisted of waking up before sunrise, practising yoga, surfing in perfect conditions, refuelling with a healthy wholesome breakfast washed down with countless cups of best coffee in the World, more surf, more food, more yoga, beers, dinner, bed, repeat. This would be a dream; heaven if you like and pretty much sums up the current vibes on the trip I’m running for Ticket to Ride.
Our only real worry is whether to wear factor 15 or 5 as we head to the beach for the afternoon and if we’ll need flip flops or not as the sand could be too hot to walk across…
Pictures speak louder than words so I’ll let the following shots tell the rest of the story.
