SurfaWhile was in Portugal in October, coincidentally at the same time as Lynn’s stay at the beautiful surf house of Lapoint in Ericeira. Of course that was reason enough for us to visit her. We spoke to her on the last day of her week and asked how the week had gone
I had such a great time there. Upon arrival I was very well taken care of straight away, that was very nice. I traveled alone, so in the beginning, I was a bit nervous, but after I had checked in, I immediately got a tour of the house of one of the social hosts. Because of this I immediately had a warm and welcoming feeling, because Eddie (the social host) was very nice. He explained to us (I was with 4 others) how breakfast worked and how the other meals were arranged. It was also about surfing lessons and other activities.
Because Eddie himself was so relaxed and seemed very chill, I noticed that I immediately felt at home. I actually immediately had an affinity with the house and caught myself feeling so at home that I treated the house in a very neat way. I already cleaned up my mess, something I didn’t immediately expect in advance.

That I did for sure! The surf teacher, Nuno, was really great. He made the surfing lesson very personal and that helped enormously. Within our group we were immediately informed of the fact that we had to pay close attention to each other in the water, so there was a lot of mutual connection. Nuno was a very nice guy, everyone liked him very much. After our last lesson we bought a small gift for him, a nice t-shirt.
I tried level 2 surf classes this week and I was very happy about that. At first I had my doubts about going to level 1, as I had already surfed a month in Senegal, but that was in 2013. However, I still dared to step in to a higher level and that worked out very well. The waves in Ericeira were consistent and good but also challenging. Because of this, the theory lesson on the beach was very important because it was very useful to us. Occasionally it was quite busy in the water, but of course Ericeira is the surfing capital of Portugal for a reason.
I chose this accommodation because the photos looked really good. The location also appealed to me because Portugal still has a very nice climate with good waves in October. Where I did not know Lapoint before, I am convinced now and hope to be able to return to one of their camps soon.

In the end, it was the others from my surf group who really made my week. We immediately had a very nice click. The group was very international because there were English, Germans, Norwegians and Swiss in addition to a Dutchy (me). We really laughed a lot but also had good conversations. We have also created a WhatsApp group and I sincerely hope that we will stay in close contact. There are already plans to go to Costa Rica in the spring and I very much hope that it will continue.
We know why Lynn wants to go to the Lapoint surf house in Costa Rica, find out more information through the link.
