Hakuna matata, what a wonderful phrase. Hakuna matata, it ain’t no passing phrase, it means no worries for the rest of your days. It’s our problem free philosophy, Hakuna matataaaa.”

This enviable wise way of life that our flatulent friends in the Lion King live by is also a synonym of the most commonly used phrase in Costa Rica, “Pura vida”. Pura vida translates to “Pure life”, which simply means enjoying life and being happy, something that the relaxed Costa Ricans have got dialled.
Maybe it’s due to the lack of a national army, tourist-based economy and focus on keeping safe beaches, parks and other public areas making it the safest country in Central America. Or maybe it’s due to the incredible surf breaking onto beautiful sandy beaches, shadowed by tropical rainforests full of exotic wildlife.
Whatever makes up the Pura Vida lifestyle in Costa Rica, it has to be experienced to be understood. You hear the term Paradise thrown around the surf tourism industry quite often but Costa Rica, is the real deal, it’s legit.
I’m running surf camps in Santa Teresa, on the Pacific Coast this February so come and join me and find your own little piece of Paradise.
