The Best Surfing Holidays in France

A surf holiday in France is well known for its fine wines, great food, some of the world's best surfing beaches and a relaxed atmosphere amongst the pine forest covered sand dunes. The deep Bay of Biscay funnels North Atlantic swells straight onto the sand banks of Hossegor, Biarritz and Anglet. Combine this with warm year round temperatures, France is a must for any surfer, of any level.
The beaches around Hossegor and Capbreton are kept immaculate and they play host to major surfing competitions throughout the year, including the Quiksilver Pro Event, held every September. The area around Hossegor is also the hub of the European surf industry. With plenty of factory outlets for companies like Billabong, Quiksilver and Rip Curl, a trip shopping is a must. Surfing in Europe originated in the surfing hub of South West France in the 1970's, predominantly at the Grande Plage in Biarritz. From here surfing spread across Europe, as board shapers started to pop up along the coast, making surfing more accessible to the local people. The 230km of coastline called the Cote d'Argent is the longest uninterrupted stretch of sandy beach in the whole of Europe. It is here that a deep, offshore canyon juts out to sea. This deep water channel enables waves to arrive at the beaches of Seignosse, Hossegor and Capbreton with more power and consistency than normal. Our surfing holidays in France are ideal for everyone from families, couples to intermediate surfers looking at cutting loose in some good waves. South west France is easy to, with good flights to Biarritz and ferry connections from the UK to France or Northern Spain. A surf holiday to France is not complete without a night out in the buzzing bars along the Hossegor and Anglet.
