Jan surfs at Lapoint Santa Teresa in Costa Rica

I had been looking forward enjoying hot water while surfing again for a while, just like in Bali 2016. After a very smooth booking procedure via SurfaWhile and very flexible communication with Olmo, I quickly planned a very nice surf trip last summer.

The journey from Schiphol to Costa Rica, with a layover in Panama City went smoothly. After a short night at the local hostel in San Jose we were picked up by a taxi that would take us to the final destination. By car and a crossing with the local ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera, we arrived in the nice surfing village Santa Teresa near Mal Pais.

The surf camp in Costa Rica

Lapoint Surf Camps are known, and the quality is top notch. They really know how to organize a surf camp. The surf camp is within walking distance of Playa Carmen beach. In the village you will find numerous American surf shops and ding repairs.

Wondering what a “ding” is? Check out our surf alphabet.

I can recommend it to everyone to become a member of the “SurfaWhile” and “Lapoint” family. You will immediately feel at home in this tropical paradise with jungle and palm trees on the left side and the Pacific Ocean on the right.

The daily portion of surfing always starts early in the morning. The amazing waves in this landscape remain breathtakingly, especially if you can paddle out like an early bird in this tropical warm water. These images stay in my head and come in the ‘paradise’ category.

The best of this camp is really the professionalism of the local surf instructors, who give the best of themselves every day to take your surf skills to a higher level. Your level as a beginner or intermediate surfer is guaranteed to improve quickly. If you follow their golden advice, you will soon be surfing the Costa Rican waves as one of the best.

‘I will definitely come back!’

The camp is nicely furnished and is guarded 24/7. The rooms are nice and are scattered throughout the cosy camp. There is also the possibility to book a private room with your partner of a friend. In addition to surfing, there are many other activities to do such as: swimming at a waterfall, zip lining at the jungle, snorkelling and quad tours in the area.

This is an unforgettable trip, especially the pleasant cool relaxed atmosphere in the camp is really super. I will definitely come back!
