Last summer Nando spent some time in Tenerife to study spanish and surf. We briefly spoke about his experience of the surfing and language trip in Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife. We already knew that this destination guarantees a good time, but that it went so well was even a surprise for us!
Hi Nando, why did you decide to come to Tenerife to surf and learn Spanish?
We already had the desire to surf on an island. From there we had the choice between Fuerteventura and Tenerife in terms of budget. Because my travel companion has been to Fuerteventura last year, the choice was made fairly quickly. In addition, we were looking for a place where it would also be easy to find peace; Tenerife turned out to be the perfect destination to make that happen.
What can you tell about your time on the island?
We really enjoyed our time in Tenerife, the people were open, restaurants cozy, but above all we were soon surrounded by fun people and activities due to the surfing and Spanish lessons. In addition, Puerto de la Cruz, the town where we stayed, is great fun to walk through with all the little shops. The fact that our apartment was in a quiet area but within walking distance of everything necessary was great.

How were the Spanish lessons and how was the surf?
Our days were wonderfully laid out: we got up early for Spanish lessons in the morning, did some shopping, had a little siesta and at 4 in the afternoon we were already in our wetsuits to go in the water. Afterwards we went out for dinner or cooked a nice meal at the apartment and finished the day off with a beer and socializing.
In terms of Spanish lessons, it soon became clear that our levels we quite different. It went a bit easier for me, largely because of my Spanish ex-girlfriend. However, the lessons were very nice and I was mainly able to refine a lot grammatically.
The surfing was great. I had surfed in Thailand for three days, so you could say i was quite inexperienced. The instructors were nice and proactive. I think the waves were good for beginners. I can give as a tip to really talk to the instructors about what can be improved, this doen not directly come from themselves. By building that connection they will care more about you and your experience.

Why would you recommend Tenerife?
I would recommend Tenerife to those who value peace and freedom as well as fun surfing lessons and people. Everyone is very accommodating and kind. Tenerife is also a very good place for seafood lovers. The seafood and fish are among the freshest I have tasted! This entire mix of things make it the perfect holiday destiantion for me, and i can image a lot of others would feel the same after a visit!
