Biarritz is a well-known holiday destination on the French coast with a huge number of events throughout the year. Between this list of events there are a few that stand out for surfers. In addition, there are also some events that have nothing to do with surfing, but are very nice to visit! In the vicinity of Biarritz there are also many surf camps, many of which have an option to go to Biarritz for a day. Something we definitely recommend to do if you get the chance!

Wheels and waves
10 – 14 june 2020
Since 2008 the wheels and waves festival brings together surfers, skaters, motorcyclists and music lovers. A special mix, but that is precisely what makes this festival so much fun. There are various surf competitions that professional surfers come to. In addition to that there will be many concerts and there will be many custom motorbikes, which they will also be racing with. Are you a motorcycle and / or surf enthusiast then this is a festival that you don’t want to miss.
Surf film festival Anglet
10 – 13 july 2020
This festival is free to visit and a must see for surfers if you are in the Biarritz area at the beginning of July. There are 3 open-air cinemas on which old classic surf films and the very latest films are screened. There are also art exhibitions and several concerts. Every day the party lasts until midnight, but afterwards you can always dive into the center of Biarritz. A weekend full of surfing, sun and beach, what more do you want?
23 – 30 june 2020
This annual celebration in Biarritz is seen as the opening of the summer season, and that is well celebrated this week! You can try out the stands of various bodegas and restaurants here every day from 12 to 12. In addition to the delicious food, there are also concerts and DJs that ensure that you see the sun sink into the ocean while dancing. A party for young and old, but every year very cozy! Well worth a visit.
Vuurwerk grande plage
14 july 2020
Grande plage is known as the surfing beach of Biarritz and is a very nice beach to visit in general. But on July 14 it is extra special to visit this beach. From a rock in the sea, kilos of fireworks are shot into the air for half an hour. This show has been set up very professionally and attracts many visitors from the region. After the fireworks, it remains fun in the city for a long time.
Fetes de bayonne
29 july – 2 august 2020
This annual party is one that you should not miss. The recipe for the party is actually very simple; music is played on almost every street corner, there are French people who dance (be sure to participate!) and you also regularly see performances. There are bars everywhere to get a drink, which you drink outside. The entire party takes place in the city, especially around the Adour river. This actually lasts all day, where the day ends with a beautiful firework display. In 2019, Olmo Chris and Thomas from SurfaWhile visited this great party, you can read more about this in this article about fetes de Bayonne.
