More information about Surf Camps Portugal

Surfing in Portugal, do we even have to say more? We’ve selected the best surf camps in Portugal for you to choose from. At Errant Surf we specialize in providing you with the information that really matters as we truly believe in surf camps being about the experiences, much rather than the objective information of a certain accommodation. That is why we will tell you, about all our locations, what type of guests visit the surf camp, when you can travel best, what activties you can do (and what make them special) and we even have a special list of surf holidays with a swimming pool.

Best location for a surf camp?

Portugal has an immense coastline, making it the ideal country for a surf holiday. This also means that there are surf camps all over. To give you an idea, we can advise you to have a look at our guide with best surf spots of Portugal. Here we’ve divided the country into three areas: the North, the center and the South. When having a closer look, surfing in Portugal could be split up in even 5 areas: Around Porto, from Ericeira up to Figueira da Foz, around Lisbon, Alentejo and the Algarve. In all these areas Errant Surf has several options for surf holidays in Portugal.

But the questions still is: where to go for a surf camp in Portugal? This depends on a number of factors. Are you looking for a surf holiday with friends, alone or with your other half? Or are you after a surf holiday for families? It’s also important to consider your level as the amazing Surf Camp Alentejo offers a great experience with a true surf-vibe, but does turn out not to be the best possible spot for advanced surfers. You can always get in touch with one of our surf experts to select that location or surf camp that best suits your needs and wishes.

On the other hand, and that’s what these pages are made for, Feel free to have a look at some of the surf camps that are present here. We also have overview pages dedicated to other destinations, such as surf camps in France and surf camps in Spain, including the Canary Islands. By the way, we like to specify what we are talking about when mentioning surf camps. Many accommodations say they are surf camps, where we do not disagree with. However, many of these accommodations you will find in our overview with surf holidays, including all surf holidays that Errant Surf offers. In this overview here – for surf camps – we mainly focus on surf experiences that take place while staying and sleeping in a tent. Spending your surf holiday in a tent can be amazing. Even if you’ve never camped before in your life, we can ensure you that you’re going to absolutely love it. Just have a look at this amazing Glamping Plus experience in Portugal, where you are being served 3-course meals (of a very high quality – trust us!) while overlooking the clear blue seas incl. the beautiful coastline of Western Portugal.

When to go to a surf camp?

When to go to Portugal for surfing really depends on your level. The advanced surfers will likely find waves throughout the entire year, with Ericeira, Peniche, Costa da Caparica and several spots along the Algarve being the most interesting. Novice or beginning surfers will be best off during the summer months with several beaches in Porto, around Lisbon, in Alentejo and certainly also in the Algarve being perfect for their level. You are best of comparing the surf camps in Portugal you find on this page or contact us for more information. We are happy to help.

We are happy to give you some tips, as the months May through to September are amazing to visit the northern part of the country, where you can opt for a stay at the Estela Surf Hostel or the city centre Circle Surf Camp Porto. In the summer months, the quiet Praia da Tocha is an amazing getaway from busy life, where the Dreamsea Surf Camp offers you a great stay in style. On the shoulders of the high season you can certainly visit the beautiful Sintra, as the summer months itself likely make this spot too busy to go to. The Sintra Surf House remains to be one of our favorite picks. Around Lisbon you are good to go between March and November (and if the weather’s good, even the months of November and February can be really pleasant). Here we’ve got the Gota d’Agua Surf House in Costa da Caparica, the Surf Lisbon (close to the city centre) and the surf house in Cascais. Further south you will find the beautiful Glamping Plus and surf camp Alentejo, two beautiful surf camps in Portugal that we certainly can recommend.
