More information about Surf + Language Travels

About Surf + Language Holidays

A surf + language trip is a unique experience. In the mornings, you follow language lessons at a friendly language school, where you improve your language skills together with international students. You will not only learn a lot about the language and culture of the country of your destination, but you will also learn a lot about the countries and cultures of your fellow students. The afternoons are free for you to enjoy surfing. Many of the language schools with which SurfaWhile collaborates are located on or near excellent surf spots. Depending on your surfing level or on the location, you can take surfing lessons in the afternoons, or you can rent or buy a board to surf on your own.

Learn Spanish + Surfing

Learning Spanish and surfing, a golden combination! We offer some great surfing + language courses, both within and outside Europe. The Spanish mainland, San Sebastian, has one of the best surf spots in the world. The Canary Islands also have some great surf spots, such as Tenerife and/or Fuerteventura. Here you can enjoy a great surf + language experience all year round. Outside of Europe, you will find some great destinations in Latin America to combine learning Spanish with surfing. Think of Montanita in Ecuador, Tamarindo in Costa Rica or Puerto Escondido in Mexico.

Learn English + Surfing

Are you thinking of brushing up your English skills abroad for a while? Then perhaps a combination of improving your English + surfing is something for you! Relatively close to home, Cornwall in England or Bundoran in Ireland are very good options. Are you looking for a more exotic destination? How about the vibrant Cape Town in South Africa, or tropical Hawaii? There are also some fantastic options for a great language trip in Australia.

Learning French or Portuguese + Surfing

In addition to learning Spanish or English in combination with surfing, we have two more great experiences in store for you. Firstly, we offer the combination of learning French and surfing in Biarritz, one of the most popular surfing spots in Europe. Besides the beautiful beaches with great waves, Biarritz has a fantastic kitchen and vibrant nightlife. Finally, SurfaWhile also offers great opportunities to learn Portuguese in combination with surfing in the great metropolis of Lisbon. This vibrant city actually has everything you can think of. A lot of history, a fantastic choice, a vibrant nightlife and beautiful beaches with ditto waves. What are you waiting for? Let’s go SurfaWhile!

How does Errant Surf determine the quality of the language schools?

Quality is very important to us. We choose our partner institutes with great care. Almost all the destinations you will find are known as the best surf destinations in the world. In addition, we have high quality standards for the language schools we work with. Many of our partner schools have been nominated for the Star Awards in the past: this is something like the Oscars for language travel! Many of Errant Surf’s partner institutes are also certified examination centres. This means that you can and may take official exams at these schools.

I am a beginner when it comes to learning the new language, how long should I go for?

If you have no or little experience with a particular language, we recommend that you travel for at least 4 weeks. This is because then you are more likely to build up a foundation that will stick. Of course, you can also learn a lot in 2 weeks, but the long-term effect is often less.

Are there more people who travel alone?

There are certainly many others who travel alone. Whether it’s a surf camp in Portugal, an English + Surf course in Byron Bay or a combination of learning Spanish and surfing in Ecuador, there are people travelling alone everywhere. You don’t have to worry that you’ll end up with a bunch of friends. And even if that were the case, most travellers tend to be very open and sociable and everyone is often quickly accepted into a group.
