Highlights

  • Excellent climate: Cadiz is located in the south-west of Spain, in the famous region of Andalusia. This region has a great climate, with almost the entire year being delightfully warm.
  • Cosy and lively city: The city is considered the oldest city in Europe and therefore has a very long history. Because of this, the inner city is very beautiful, which makes the old centre very cosy. You can enjoy wandering through the narrow streets and the cosy squares.
  • Many options for excursions: Cadiz is located on the west coast of Andalusia. The city is surrounded by beautiful nature with endless beaches. It is great to discover the surroundings of Cadiz, with the nice (kite-) surf towns of Tarifa, Conil de la Frontera and El Palmar at short distance.

In Cádiz you will meet an entire international group of people, with Spanish enthusiasts from all over the world. Most of them are between 20 and 40 years old and all want the same thing: too learn Spanish while enjoying life as much as possible.

About Spanish and Surf in Cadiz

Below you will read everything you would want to know about this surf + language program in Cadiz, Spain. In case anything is unclear to you, feel free to reach out to us.

About Cadiz, Spain

  • Cadíz: Cadíz is located in the south of Spain, not far from Portugal. The city is located in the popular region of Andalusia, a region known for its wonderful climate, gastronomy, hospitality and affordable life. This is a place where you can go all year round, even in January it can still be above 20 degrees. Cadíz is a city with an enormously rich past, it is even seen as the oldest city in Europe!
  • Andalusia: in addition to Cadiz itself being a very nice city to walk around, admire the architecture or discover the nightlife, there is also a lot to do in the area. The city has an ideal location, with good connections to cities such as Seville, Malaga, Tarifa or even Portugal. You will never be bored in Cadiz.

About the language school

  • The Language School: the language school has many years of experience in giving Spanish lessons in various disciplines. For example, much attention is paid to speaking, but in addition listening, writing, grammar and reading will all be included in the lessons. The school has the IALC quality mark, in addition to a number of other quality marks.
  • The building: more than a year ago, the school moved into a new building, with which it can currently offer the most modern classrooms. Much light in a spatial environment greatly inspires the students.

About the language lessons

  • Spanish lessons: the Spanish usually take place in the morning, where you take 20 lessons per week. Here the focus will be on speaking, reading, writing and grammar. A lot of interaction is used to involve everyone in the lessons in a fun way. It is also possible to take 25 Spanish lessons per week to be completely immersed in the Spanish language.
  • Spanish + surf:  with the Spanish + surf program, in addition to the 20 Spanish lessons per week, you follow 2 surf lessons per week. The surfing lessons are 90 minutes at a time and usually take place in the afternoon. The lessons are given by a renowned surf school in Cadíz.
  • Language level:  the lessons are possible for students of all language levels. Beginners can start in 2020 on: 220 Jan. 03 Feb Feb. 17 02 Mar Mar 16 Mar 30 Apr. 13 27 Apr. 11 May. May 25. 08 Jun Jun 22 06 Jul Jul 20 03 Aug. 17 Aug. 31 Aug. 14 Sep. Sep 28 Oct. 12 Oct. 26 02 Nov. Nov. 16 Nov. 30

About the students

  • The students: you will improve your Portuguese in a very international environment. This way you will not only learn a lot about Portugal, but you will also learn a lot about the countries and cultures of your fellow students during your stay.

About the surf lessons

  • Surf lessons : per week you will receive 2 x 90 minutes of surf lessons. The surf school is not far from the school and can easily be reached by bus. The surfing lessons are provided by a very renowned surf school in Cadíz. These lessons are optional. We do recommend that you only book surfing lessons in the winter months (November to April).
  • Intensive surf lessons: if you really want to make progress on your surfboard, it is also possible to book 2 extra surf lessons per week. You then take a total of 4 surfing lessons per week.
  • Material:  if you would like to surf outside the lessons, that is of course very possible. You can rent equipment at the surf school or perhaps buy a surfboard (this can often be used).

About the surf conditions

The conditions:  in Cádiz it is certainly possible to surf all year round. Normally the waves are best between October / November and March / April. During these months it is often good to stay in southern Spain, with a good chance of nice waves for surfing.

  • The surfing lessons are given at different levels. The surf instructors will ensure that you get lessons at your level, even if you have never surfed you will learn this quickly.
  • If you are an experienced surfer, we recommend that you purchase a second-hand surfboard on location.

Accommodation

  • Shared apartment: you share  these apartments with fellow students or with Spaniards, this can vary per location. You get access to your own room and bed linen and towels are also supplied. The apartments are located in different areas of Cadíz. Almost all sights, etc., are basically within walking distance.
  • Host family: this is the ideal way to improve your Spanish even faster. You stay in an apartment where a family also lives (this can be with or without children). These people already have experience living with students who are learning the Spanish language, they will only try to help you. Wi-Fi is (usually) available in host families. You will also get your own room while you share the bathroom. Both towels and bed linen are provided. Breakfast is included and it is possible to choose the half board option, where you get another meal a day (usually lunch).

What is there to do?

  • El Conil, El Palmar and Tarifa (Costa de la Luz): the coastal strip of the province of Cadíz is a beautiful coast where bustling surf and kite surfing spots alternate. Tarifa is probably the most famous kite surfing spot in Europe, and El Palmar is the surfing capital of southern Spain.
  • City trips Cadíz is a wonderful base from which you can discover the entire region of Andalusia. Seville, Malaga, Ronda and Jerez can easily be reached from Cadíz.
  • Other activities:  during the week many activities are organized from the language school. You can think of flamenco dancing, cooking workshops, a visit to archaeological sites and much more. So you will never be bored!

A very well-rounded place with a lot of upsides. There's a friendly atmosphere, effective teachers and helpful people in general (they can recommend you tons of stuff that you

re interested in, in Cadiz). I haven't done my courses yet (as of this time), but I can already say that it is very effective. And they also propose cultural activities that you can sign up for DAILY.

I had a great experience at CLIC in Cádiz. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and the teachers I had were excellent. My Spanish has really improved as a result of my

2 week course. I would definitely take another course with CLIC. In addition Cádiz is a wonderful small city that is easy to navigate and has the BEST climate in summer in Spain! Not too hot!

Great school to learn Spanish, the best in Cádiz ;-). The school is very modern, bright and the classrooms have lots of light. During the breaks and after the lessons the roo

terrace is the place to be, to hang out with the other students or just do homework or read. The teachers are very professional and very patient. They have a great way with the students. Furthermore, the administrative staff are very helpful and Marina is the best!

I am super happy I started my Spanish adventure here! The teachers and other employees are very kind and are willing to help you with everything. The classes are very professi

nal, I enjoyed it a lot! I loved the pauses on the rooftop terrace with other students too. CLIC also offers many cultural activities, which are very fun! It's an amazing way to get to know the other students and the city. CLIC arranged an amazing family for me where I lived with for a month. This is an experience I will never forget. Next to my Dutch family, I also have a Spanish family from now on (L). Thanks CLIC for the amazing time and hasta pronto!

I loved my 2 weeks at CLIC in Cádiz. The teaching was excellent and the lessons were delivered in a very relaxed style. The classes were small and plenty of conversation wa

encouraged which, importantly, was corrected carefully as we spoke. I really improved my Spanish and also enjoyed the varied extra-curricular activities immensely. I would strongly recommend this experience to anyone who is keen to improve their Spanish.
