Travel Guide: Things to do in Le Pin Sec

Le Pin Sec is located a little above Bordeaux and is a fairly remote and sleepy surf village. If you want a surfing holiday where you can also relax and unwind then Le Pin Sec is the place for you! It is so remote that you may occasionally spend your time searching for a decent 3G internet connection. However, that does not have to be a bad thing and ensures that you are mainly concerned with the beautiful nature, good surfing conditions and nice restaurants.

Activities in Le Pin Sec

It can be a bit daunting when you arrive in this little surf village, because there is not much to see or do outside the surf camps. But don’t worry, SurfaWhile has visited several times and can give you the best spots that are there to visit. To start with the restaurants, even though there is not much, what is there is very tasty!

If you walk down the campsite and you take the road to the beach there are various small restaurants and shops. These restaurants are built up before the summer season and then taken down again after the season. The names and locations of the restaurants can therefore change over the years. Nevertheless, I will do my best to make everything as clear as possible. The names of the restaurants will therefore be left out, but there are always large plates with specialties for the restaurants from which it will become clear what it is exactly.

Fresh smoothies every morning

One of the restaurants specializes in healthy and fresh food. For example, get a tasty smoothie with a bowl of granola and fresh fruit, guaranteed to be a good start to your day. The vitamins will ensure that your body recovers quickly from intensive surfing. You can also find many vegan options. There are more than enough options for a nice breakfast or lunch, even if you don’t feel like having healthy options. Our tip, check the signs and you will certainly find what you want.

Beach bars

If you do not want to leave the beach for your meal, then you are in the right place at Le Pin Sec. Au Pin Sec & à L’Eau is located in the middle of the beach. A typical beach bar where you can relax on the terrace during the day and have a bite to eat. In the evenings it is also very pleasant here and you can keep on drinking until late. Sometimes the party even continues on the beach! On the surf camps themselves, it must be quiet at 11 pm at the latest, but the party will continue on the beach.

Discover the surroundings

At most surf camps in Le Pin Sec it is possible to rent bicycles. For example, go to Montalivet, this is about 15 kilometers by bike but in a beautiful setting. Here you have a daily market, this is not a typical tourist market, but one with trendy stands, homemade jewelry and gadgets and of course lots of food places! We recommend the stand where you can eat fresh oysters while enjoying a glass of wine. What surprised us was the range of vegan meals. For example the vegan Tacos. Really recommended!

The Beach

If you go to the coast in France, you already know that it is going to be good. In Le Pin Sec the beach is quiet and very wide, so you have all the space you need. For example, take a football or volleyball with you and organize a tournament with your friends. Another thing that is very special about this beach is that there are still many bunkers from The Second World War on the beach. Here you can sometimes still get inside them, but it is also super cool to watch the sunset from the abandoned bunkers.

The Perfect Family Holiday

Le Pin Sec is wonderfully secluded, so you have a lot of time for each other and for surfing. The surf camps themselves respond to this and there are a couple of family camps in Le Pin Sec. We understand why they are here, the spacious and quiet beach is perfect for children to play and discover the Bunkers. While there is enough opportunity for parents to drink a glass of wine at one of the beach bars.

Le Pin Sec distinguishes itself from Vieux-Boucau and Moliets for its quiet character. Particularly in contrast to, for example, Moliets or Vieux-Boucau where there are also many surf camps. The power of Le Pin Sec is the beautiful surroundings and the possibility to enjoy a more private type of relaxation with your family or friends. Sounds good right?
