When you think of surf camps in France you think of Moliets. In recent years, this place has become the most popular surfing destination in Europe. That’s not surprising as Moliets has the perfect combination of good waves with a vibrant nightlife and good restaurants. This is also the main reason that there are so many surf camps in this relatively small village. However, in this article we do not necessarily focus on surfing, but more on what you can do outside of surfing. As you will see there are so many options!
The Surf Camps
If you stay in Moliets, chances are that you will stay at one of the many surf camps. These are all on the same campsite, which makes it a bustling surfing village within Moliets. In principle, you can entertain yourself for a whole week within this campsite as the surf camps organize many activities, in addition to the fact that you will make many new friends.

Additionally, outside the surf camps you can see that the needs of the visitors are well met. An example is bar L’open, but more about that later. If you want to eat outside of the camps to escape the hustle and bustle, that is of course also possible.
Food in Moliets
In Moliets itself there is more than enough choice if you want to eat out. SurfaWhile has visited Moliets several times and these are our favorite places.
- Le Globe Trotter (lunch & diner)
This small but super cozy place serves oriental food of which you are no longer in France after a bite, but somewhere in Asia. The favorite of SurfaWhile is the chicken banana curry, a seemingly wierd combination but all doubts are eliminated with the first bite. The fresh juices are also recommended here after a long day of surfing. In short, if you like Asian food (and beers) then this is the place for you in Moliets.
- Amazone Cafe (lunch)
This trendy café is the favorite breakfast spot of SurfaWhile where the focus is on healthy and fresh products. Apart from that, the coffee here is also very fresh. Every day fresh pastries are made here that go very well with the coffee. This spot is very popular with vegans with an enormous amount of options! I almost forget to mention, the smoothies help you to get your energy back on track after a day of intensive surfing ( and a night of intensive partying) !
- Spar supermarket
I hear you thinking, what is a supermarket doing in this list? Yet most of you will be happy if you know where to find it when you arrive after a long day of traveling in beautiful Moliets. Every surf camp visitor comes here at least once during his vacation for a breakfast of freshly baked bread and juice. In addition, it is handy to get some bottles of water, snacks and six-packs of beer here. Anyway, maybe the Spar is a bit off the boat in this list, but it is handy! You can find the supermarket next to the campsite entrance with the surf camps.
Of course there is more on offer than these two restaurants but we stick to SurfaWhile’s favorites. There are also plenty of restaurants that cater to the large numbers of tourists, but then we would much rather be with one of these two.
Party in Moliets
If you want to party in Moliets there is really only one place that is relevant, and what a gem of a place! The main pub of practically every surf camp is L’open Cafe and it is fun every day of the week. You will find many like-minded people here and it is always full! It is the only place in Moliets where it is really busy in the late hours, but you don’t need more. Every night there is a different theme for the music, for example, you have a techno evening every week. The prices for a beer are quite high so keep this in mind.
If you still feel like a bite after the party, Moliets has what you are looking for. Chez Nue-Neuf is right next to L’open, where you can get a fries or a kebab for example. It will be very busy after closing time of L’open, but you have to do something if you just roll out of the pub.
Other than the wide variety of restaurants, bars and cafes that run along the beach promenade there is a huge selection of bohemian shops to wander through. The smell of incense and the sound of waves are a perfect soundtrack to a day spent wandering the Moliet’s promenade. If you are looking for something special, then a trip to the outlet store is a must as the latest surf gear and clothing can be found at crazy low prices. Moliet’s is a truly unique place with a whole host of activities to partake in off the beach.
